In the funeral rites of the Roman Catholic Church, we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We, as Parish Family, are here to assist you. Please do not hesitate to call upon us (301-834-9185). We support you in prayer and assure you that as a Catholic family when we celebrate the Eucharist we pray, "Lord, remember those who have gone before marked with the sign of faith." Those you have loved will not be forgotten.
The Meaning of Death
Death is a passage from this life to the next life as Jesus promised. When we think about death, we should remember the promise. This passage is to be experienced in the light of the Resurrection. In faith, we believe that one day we will all be gathered together by God to live with Him.
When a Loved One Dies
In the event that a loved one dies, you should contact the Parish office on 301-834-9185
to speak with a staff person. That person can put you in touch with a sensitive and caring funeral home that is familiar with our faith traditions and customs, and discuss the fees associated with burial. The Pastoral Leader of the Parish or his representative will meet with the immediate family to minister to them and to help them prepare the funeral liturgy. Depending on the family, customs, cultural background, and faith participation, together we will be able to put together a tasteful and appropriate Funeral Liturgy.
The St. Francis-St. Mary’s parish community is compassionate and wants to help you and your family during the mourning period. Here are some ways in which you can expect the Parish Community to support you:
Offering prayers and petitions for the deceased and the family. In this way our prayers, which bring spiritual help, may also bring consoling hope.
Acknowledging the pain and grief associated with the death of a loved one, and to aid those who mourn.
Conducting a Christian Liturgical Service reflecting the Christian virtues of love, honesty, beauty, hope and simplicity.
The intent of the following guidelines is to enable you to truly celebrate Christ's promise of eternal life and to find comfort within our Christian community.
